FAQ

Who is our instructor? Jessica Obregon, the owner of Paramita is your only instructor.

Who do I do makeup on during the bootcamp? Students do makeup on each other.

Is there a kit or a kit fee? No. Students are responsible for purchasing their own brushes and makeup.

Do I receive a certificate after the bootcamp? Yes. You will receive a certificate as a makeup artist after the 1 week bootcamp.

I'm not meaning any disrespect when I ask this, but with your bootcamps being just over a week, how does it compare to other schools who are way more expensive and take longer periods of time? I'm just trying to gather as much information as I can. Other schools cover topics (e.g. foundations) for longer periods of time. They have bigger classes with one instructor and they have people paying to get their makeup done by the students at the school. Essentially the students are working for the school, not for themselves. There is a limit when it comes to makeup, from there your experience and creativity are everything.

When can I apply for my M.A.C. Pro card? You can apply for your card after you receive your certificate. (40% discount)

Can I take the weekend bootcamp before I take the 1 week bootcamp since I'm already a makeup artist? No. All students must complete the 1 week bootcamp before they take a weekend class.

How much is the total fee for the 1 week bootcamp? $995 (including your registration fee)

When is my tuition fee due? On your start date.

How can I pay for my registration fee and tuition? You can pay by certified cheque, bank draft, money order, cash, email money transfer or paypal (no personal cheques accepted)

Is there parking at the school? Yes. There is a free visitors parking lot at the school.

What does a class look like in action?

I am interested in becoming a freelance makeup artist, specializing in bridal and was wondering if your classes would be a good fit? Yes. The 1 week bootcamp would be perfect.

I am wondering approximately how much I will have to spend on the kit? Depending on the brands you purchase, your kit can start at $300 and up.

Where can I look for a job as a makeup artist? Bridal, makeup counters, fashion shows, photographers, films, movies, music videos, salons, spas & television.

How much do makeup artists get paid? bridal: $300 and up / daily rate: $200 and up / makeup counters: $14 and up

Do I make my own portfolio while in class? You will receive 2 edited pictures during the 1 week bootcamp and 2 edited pictures during the weekend bootcamp.

How much it costs for the two bootcamps in a row? $1290 (you save $100 on tuition if you take them together)

What would the time schedule be for the day and night classes? Monday - Friday from 9:30-2:30 (day) and 5:30-10:00 (night)

Is my certificate recognized internationally? Yes.

I saw your office hours on the website and I'm wondering if you accept random drop-ins to the studio? It's best if you make an appointment to meet with Jessica, so you don't interupt classes and to make sure she's at the school.

How do I find out about jobs or volunteer assignments? Students keep in touch on Paramita's Makeup Artist Graduates page on Facebook to find job/volunteer postings.

Is there any financial assistance available for students? No, since the class is only 1 week long. Fees are set and are due on the start dates.

Where can I stay while I attend classes? Students can stay downtown Toronto at many different types of accommodations. (hotels, hostels, b&b's and inns)

Is there a waiting list to get into the bootcamps? The bootcamps fill up very quickly. It's on a first come first serve basis. If you have the option to register online, then there are seats available. It's very important to reply to your online registration with you confirmation number and send your registration fee to hold your seat.

I really want to work on films. Which class should I take? If you take the 2 day "Fashion, Film & Photography Makeup Artist Bootcamp" following your 1 week bootcamp, you will be taught what to do on a film set. We cover it all. I've had students tell me that they went to work on a film and the crew thought that they were working in the industry for years, when it was their first film. That's how much we cover. It's not just about the makeup, but about what's happening on a film, who's in charge etc. What to expect. I even show you a time sheet and a call sheet.

How easy/hard would it be to get into the film industry? In the beginning you would volunteer on short films or at film schools, but once you get 'in' you stay 'in'. It's a good idea to make a lot of connections/contacts with the crew so that they can recommend you on other films etc.
